There are now 128 members of the scheme in Wales with around 1.8 million Welsh farm animals being reared to RSPCA welfare standards.
In recognition of our growing membership in the region, a media supper was held at the award-winning Y Polyn restaurant in Carmarthen in October. Simon Wright, co-owner of Y Polyn as well as a high-profile author and broadcaster, co-hosted the evening with Leigh Grant, Freedom Food’s chief executive.

The event was aimed at introducing Freedom Food to the Welsh media and giving journalists and broadcasters the opportunity to meet some of our Welsh producers.
Aberystwyth University supplied Welsh Black beef for the supper with Gower Salt Marsh providing the lamb and local egg producer, Cled Richards from Efail Fach, providing the eggs for dessert.

The supper resulted in immediate coverage with articles appearing in the Western Mail, the South Wales Echo, South Wales Evening Post, Cambria magazine, Wales Online, Welsh Living and Welsh Country magazine. Discussions are also underway with Wales’ farming programme – Ffermio – for a feature on Freedom Food producers.
Y Polyn, recently voted Welsh Restaurant of the Year, was also the first in Wales to sign up to the ‘Simply Ask’ campaign.
